1922 Gibson A-2 #67285

1922 Gibson A2 mandolin SN 67285 FON 11639. There is definitely something wonderful going on with the Loar era style 2 mandolins. The adjustable bridge and adjustable truss rod were included in this immediate forerunner of the highly lauded model called "A2=Z" (everything you would want in a mandolin from a to Z”). A special adornment (at extra expense) was lavished on these early Loar-era A2 models: the rare nickel-silver truss rod cover! More importantly, the sound of these mandolins is quite remarkable. Very warm notes on the bottom with great sustain, and a brighter treble than many oval hole instruments. And, if you are lucky enough to find one that has not been mistreated, damaged or the victim of a misguided repair, there is a jewel awaiting. This is just such a mandolin. Features include spruce top in Sheraton Brown color; birch back and sides in dark brown; mahogany neck with mother-of-pearl "The Gibson" inlaid in peghead and dot position markers; elevated tortoise colored pickguard; nickel plated hardware with "The Gibson" tailpiece cover; and original hard shell G & S case. These features are all original, and while this mandolin shows evidence of a century of playing, it was never abused and is in excellent playing condition. There are no cracks, warps or sinkage, in other words, structural integrity is guaranteed. A recent "going over" by legendary luthier Randy Wood insures all joinery and seams are secure and with new frets (with period correct fret wire), it has optimal playability.
