1939 Gibson L-0 guitar # EG-135? (stamp on back of peghead not well defined). A wonderful sounding example of small bodied Gibson from the pre-WWII factory in Kalamazoo, MI. All original, no cracks or warpage, original bridge plate, X-braced, two tone-bar construction. Features include slightly arched spruce top; mahogany neck, back and sides; ivoroid bound top and back; silk-screened “Gibson” script logo on peghead; “firestripe” celluloid pickguard; ebony nut; rosewood bridge and fingerboard; ivory saddle. Lower bout: 14 3/4; scale: 24 3/4; Neck profile: rounded with very slight “V”; nut width 1.8 inches (1 51/64); fingerboard width at 12th fret: 2.21 inches (2 7/32); thickness of the neck in front of nut: 1.04 (1 1/16) inches; thickness of neck in front of 9th fret: 1.05 inches (1 1/16). Well played, all original, has never had a neck set (bridge saddle has been cut down and original bridge slightly fluted in front of string slots). This guitar is not a museum piece, it has seen much use and shows lots of finish crazing, but in no place is it worn to bare wood and overall is structurally sound. Well played, but not abused like so many of these. Probably because of its constant use, it is a great example of the sound of the best of these small bodies Gibsons from the late ‘30s. Great power and projection; crisp and dry, really nice bass notes, great sustain, clear and clean on the treble. Overall, more crisp than smokey. What a great guitar for only $5000! modern hardshell case and free shipping (continental US) included!
