1962 Martin D-21 #186985

1962 Martin D-21 guitar #186985, with original hardshell case. Excellent plus condition (only very minor neck wear and one surface scratch on top keeps this guitar from grading as mint). A beautiful example of this relatively rare model that has a marvelous rich sound and perfect set up and playability. Features include Sitka spruce top; beautifully quarter-sawn Brazilian rosewood back, sides, fingerboard, bridge and peg head overlay; Brazilian rosewood fingerboard measurements of 1 5/8” at nut, 2 1/8” at 12th fret; smooth rounded taper on mahogany neck; faux tortoise pick guard. Style 21 was introduced in a dreadnaught size in 1955 and discontinued in 1969, perhaps because of the ban on importation of Brazilian rosewood. Martin D-21, especially those made before 1964 were the favorite acoustics of many famous musicians, from Johnny Cash to Jerry Garcia, who esteemed a sound richer than the D-18 and yet brighter, and more microphone-friendly than the D-28. This is a 56 year old guitar with amazing appointments, structurally perfect integrity and rich resonate sound that still cuts a microphone. Consider too the quarter-sawn Brazilian rosewood, a rare wood that is considered by many to be the perfect timber for guitar tone. This material alone would cost at least three times this price in a new Martin guitar, which makes this a perfect guitar for player or collector. Call or email now for free shipping at $4995.
